Autumnal golfing experience in Bad Saulgau

When it comes to golf, many people think primarily of spring and summer. For Stefan Lutz, managing director of the Bad Saulgau Golf Club, however, autumn is the special time on the course: ‘It's quieter, the light is softer, the colours are more intense and the game is more focused,’ he describes.

It is precisely the relaxed atmosphere and pleasant tranquillity that make autumn a particularly appealing season for members and guests. ‘Less hustle and bustle, better tee times, an overall meditative feel to the game – that's exactly what our players appreciate in autumn,’ explains Lutz.

It's not necessarily a different type of player, but a different focus that characterises the autumn round. ‘It's less about the score and more about being outdoors and being together,’ says Lutz. Many golfers from the region take advantage of the quieter season for relaxed rounds on the well-maintained grounds, which offer a special nature experience away from the noise of the roads.

Preparation of the course for autumn begins in late summer. Cutting height, intensive maintenance of the fairways and checking details such as tee boxes, ball washers and pathways are crucial. ‘In autumn in particular, that little bit of extra attention counts. Our greenkeepers know this and make sure that the course remains in top condition,’ says Lutz.

For those who are not yet familiar with the Bad Saulgau Golf Club, Lutz has one recommendation above all else: feel at home. ‘Our goal is not to impress, but to create a relaxed atmosphere close to nature. Well-maintained courses, personal hospitality and people who love golf – that's what makes the difference.

’The combination of golf and regional experiences also plays a role. Many guests combine their rounds with a stay at the nearby Hotel Kleber Post, a stylish romantic hotel with a restaurant, spa and select wine list. ‘For many, golf becomes part of an enjoyable weekend. When dinner is as well planned as the tee shot on the 1st, that's the kind of golf I'm passionate about,’ says Lutz.
